What sets it apart from other online editors
Almost every free tool of this kind works inside the browser, and that caps both what it can accept and what it can do. The browser can't open HEIC — the format iPhone photos come in — or JXL, and it has nothing to lift a person off a background properly.
Here the processing happens on a server of our own, and that's where the two differences you notice come from: HEIC, JXL and TIFF go in, none of which the browser can decode, and background removal hands back a usable cutout in two or three seconds. In exchange the image travels: it does so encrypted, it deletes itself shortly after, and it is neither stored nor used to train anything.
How it works
- 1
Drop the image
Drag it in or pick it from your device. Format and size are checked right here, before anything is uploaded.
- 2
Adjust and process
Each tool shows only the controls it needs. Processing happens on our server, not in your browser.
- 3
Download the result
The file downloads straight away. Need another? Drop the next image and go again.
Formats it handles
11 in, 7 out. The transparency column refers to the file you download: converting to a format that doesn't support it flattens the background to white.
| Format | Reads | Writes | Compression | Transparency on output |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| PNGLossless and transparent. It's what to convert to before editing in several passes, and it weighs more than any other for exactly that reason. | Yes | Yes | Lossless | Yes |
| JPGLossy, no transparency. Still the one everything accepts, and it loses a little more every time it's saved again. | Yes | Yes | Lossy | No |
| WEBPUsually lands below the equivalent JPG without the difference showing, and it supports transparency too. | Yes | Yes | Lossy | Yes |
| AVIFThe smallest at equal quality and the slowest to encode. Current browsers open it; older desktop software doesn't. | Yes | Yes | Lossy | Yes |
| HEICWhat iPhone photos come in. It compresses beautifully and almost nothing outside Apple opens it, which is why most people arrive here to convert it. | Yes | Yes | Lossy | Yes |
| JXLJPEG XL: efficient, transparent, and lossless if you want it. Browser support is still thin, but it's useful as an archive format. | Yes | Yes | Lossy | Yes |
| ICOThe favicon format. It holds several sizes inside one file and the browser picks the one it needs. | Yes | Yes | Lossless | Yes |
| SVGVector: it has no resolution of its own and is drawn at whatever size you ask for. It's read here; to produce one, use the vectorise tool. | Yes | No | — | — |
| GIFA 256-colour palette and one-bit transparency. Read here to move it to PNG, and only the first frame is converted. | Yes | No | — | — |
| BMPUncompressed and enormous, still common in Windows exports. Read here to get it down to something manageable. | Yes | No | — | — |
| TIFFThe scanner and print format: lossless and very heavy. Read here to move it to something made for the web. | Yes | No | — | — |
Conversions explained one by one
Each has its own page, covering what you gain, what you lose, and when it isn't worth doing at all.
What happens to your images
Your image travels encrypted to our server, gets processed, and comes back. Temporary files delete themselves; we don't build a gallery out of what you upload, and you never have to tell us who you are.
Common questions
- Do I need an account?
- No. No account, no email, no trial that expires. Open a tool and use it.
- How large can an image be?
- Up to 20 MB per file. If yours is bigger, you'll know before the upload starts, so you don't burn your data.
- Is the result watermarked?
- No. What you download is the processed file, with nothing added.
- Can I use the results commercially?
- Yes. The images are yours before and after they pass through here; we claim no rights over them.
- Why is this processed on a server and not in my browser?
- Because the browser can't open HEIC or JXL, its AVIF support depends on the version, and it can't run the model that separates a person from the background. Processing on the server is what makes 11 input formats and usable cutouts possible.
- Are the images I upload stored?
- No. They travel encrypted, get processed and come back; the temporary files delete themselves shortly after. They aren't reviewed by hand and they aren't used to train any model.
- Which formats does it accept?
- It reads PNG, JPG, WEBP, AVIF, HEIC, JXL, ICO, SVG, GIF, BMP and TIFF. It writes the first seven: SVG, GIF, BMP and TIFF only come in. The table above breaks it down.
- Does converting between formats lose quality?
- It depends on the destination. PNG and ICO lose nothing. JPG, WEBP, AVIF, HEIC and JXL compress with loss, so they re-encode the image; whatever the original had already lost doesn't come back when you convert.
- Who is behind the site?
- One person, from Mexico, with no company behind it. The About page covers it in more detail, along with how the site pays for itself.
